So why the co-worker thought that I was “such” a lover of English? This thought is based on the assumption that we humans have a mental state which disposes us to behave according to it. The special attention I paid to the word “nearly” was accounted for with reference to a kind of mental state, namely, love. But I explained it as resulting from my sense of responsibility.
One way or the other, the special attention was accounted for on the basis of the mental state. As a student of philosophy, I find it lamentable, for I thought that I had already dismissed the mind and matter dualism.
