Life Is Very Difficult

Uncertainty and Originality

There is one thing that I have been agonizing over recently: whether or not I will manage to submit my dissertation this year. However, as it turned out, the problem is not that I am worried and diffident about my ability but that I am too desperate to alleviate the anxiety and turn to others for help. For my supervisor, when I asked him for advice today, told me that I have to make up my mind about what I am not certain of and that the decision will make my reasearch original. It is Bertrand Russell who says that teaching how to live without certainty is the chief thing that philosophy can do for those who study it. It seems that I haven't studied it enough to be capable of living without certainty.
